Taking time to re-set

Sometimes we have life sorted and sometimes we don’t. I do it myself. I had everything together. I was working out every day. I was on top of my diet and nutrition and I was looking and feeling brilliant! Then life got a bit intense! Working hours ramped up a lot. Some uncontrollable family stuff happened which wasn’t easy mentally. This led to less time for me and my typical routine. This happens and will continue to happen from time to time!

How do we deal with times like this when we have specific fitness goals? There’s no easy answer here. You have two choices. You give yourself a break and just do what you can when you can OR you go hell for leather and potentially crash physically and emotionally.

I’m not here to tell you what to do. I can tell you that I chose to be patient with myself as I know this is the better option long term. Punishing yourself with diet and exercise will never help you long term. The best thing to do is to NOT give yourself the ‘all or nothing’
ultimatum. Recently I have had very little time so I have just tried to schedule in activity where I can. It’s not as intense as it was 1 month ago but I am moving every day.

How can we deal with challenging times and how do we re-set?

L-fit Glasgow Personal Training Tips to managing and re-setting

– Be honest with yourself about how much you can physically and emotionally handle.

– Ask yourself – are you prioritising work over your health? Is this what will put a smile on your face when you are at the end of the finish line of life?

– Make sure you put yourself as a priority – when we are busy, something has to give.

– Don’t make it your health and happiness that slips each time
Re-set by moving in a way that your body can cope with – try pilates or a swim/walk.

– Gently increase your exercise again until you are back where you want to be.

– Ask for help – if you usually make the healthy dinners and can no longer find the time – ask another household member OR make it a family activity.

– Eat nutritious food – lots of colourful veggies! It might not be what you’re craving but I can guarantee it is what your body needs
